Semantics? – Maybe, maybe not. Remediation, by definition, involves the physical removal thereof. We simply kill the mold leaving you with dirt, dust, dead material. Sure, some scientists will say that dead mold MAY have “allergenic” or “irritating” effects is someone is exposed. Fine, wipe away or vacuum what is visible or exposed, then prime with an oil-base primer and paint, and you’re back in business!
Drywall, carpet, or other contaminated building materials only need to be replaced if their structure is compromised. If the mold is the result of a flood for example, you might have a foot or two of drywall that has turned soft. Or maybe the mold became so thick and deep rooted, in some areas, it has weakened SOME of the drywall. The insurance adjustors in many cases mandate you discard all of your personal effects that were in a contaminated area.
